Both players had inflated price tags, while the Gunners coaches were not 100 percent convinced by either.

Luiz is seen as a stop gap before William Saliba arrives from Saint-Etienne next summer.

Saliba is back on loan at the Ligue 1 side to gain experience, given he is only 18.
