Arsenal are confident they'll land Ajax chief Marc Overmars as new technical director.

The Dutchman is now Arsenal's top target after seeing Monchi return to Sevilla yesterday.

Arsenal are now turning to Overmars, who played for them between 1997 and 2000.

Just last week, Ajax chief Edwin van der Sar said: "Talking is free.

"Marc is happy here.

"Whether he had a conversation? That could be. Talking is free. But I know that Marc has a commitment to Ajax. Marc and I, and the rest of the club management, want to lift the club.

"The club has brought us a lot."
