Arsenal closing on deal for New England Revolution goalkeeper Turner

Arsenal are closing in on a deal for New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal are finalising the £5.8million signing of goalkeeper Turner from New England Revolution.

The deal for the 27-year-old includes a further £2m in add-ons plus a sell-on percentage.

Turner - who will play for the United States on Thursday night in their World Cup qualifier against El Salvador - is not expected to move to Emirates Stadium until the summer however.

New England were keen to retain his services but eventually accepted his desire to move to the Premier League.

Turner's summer arrival is expected to impact on Bernd Leno, who wants to leave Arsenal in search of regular football after being usurped as No 1 by Aaron Ramsdale.

The 29-year-old Germany international will have just one year left on his contract at the end of the season, with former club Bayer Leverkusen and Premier League outfit Newcastle interested in his services.

Turner joined Major League Soccer side New England Revolution in 2016 from Jersey Express.
