Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi has confirmed talks have been held about a European Super League.
Sanllehi was named in the Football Leaks documents as taking part in secret negotiations while he was still at Barcelona, along with Arsenal, both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool.
But he insists that while there is big pressure to change the Champions League, the Gunners remain fully committed to the Premier League.
Sanllehi said: “I don't know what the future will bring, because the future writes itself. But what I can assure you is we think the current situation is an optimal situation and we are very proud to be in the Premier League.
“By all means, it's the best competition in the world. And we want to be in the Champions League because we believe it's the best continental competition in the world, so that's why we want to be involved.
“But right now the situation... I don't envision radical change in the short term or medium term.
“I know I'm mentioned, so let me explain to you properly.
“Actually there's nothing new explained in that article but there's ways to twist the truth to make it sound like something strange.
“Basically, as responsible for top European clubs, the ECA (European Club Association), we had to look to all the options for the future. One of them, of course, could have been the possibility of a European Super League.
“We know the competition we have here in England — it's extremely exciting, extremely competitive and its something we will always value. But we have to be responsible.
“We have an incredible jewel that is Arsenal Football Club and we need to make sure Arsenal is always in any driving seat of anything that may happen in the future.
“We need to at least be aware and decide in a responsible way whether that is the direction to take or not. But we need to be there."
