Arsenal challenge Atletico Madrid for Gremio defender Walter Kannemann

Arsenal are in the market for a new young centre-half.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal are showing interest in Argentina defender Walter Kannemann.

Unai Emery wants better options for his defence and 28-year-old Kannemann is a naturally left sided centre back who has been drafted into the national squad this season.

The Gremio defender has drawn interest from a number of English sides plus Atletico Madrid whose coach Diego Simeone worked with Kannemann previously at San Lorenzo.

Known as 'the Viking', Kannemann is a combative, robust tackler and is understood to have a buy out clause of around £10.2million.
