Arsene Wenger had every confidence that Alexandre Song would be a success at Arsenal despite doubts from certain fans. The 21-year-old Cameroon international has impressed this season particularly when asked to play as a holding midfielder.

"I read articles that stated Song was the worst signing I ever made since I am at Arsenal," Wenger said.

"I was one of the few people who kept faith in him. But we just needed to be patient.

"He helps the team to be well balanced because he is more defensive than the other midfielders. However I rather consider him as a centre defender."
