Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign Everton defender Phil Jagielka this summer.
The Guardian says Wenger has identified Everton's Jagielka, and not Bolton Wanderers' Gary Cahill or Christopher Samba of Blackburn Rovers, as the prime candidate to solve his perennial problems in central defence.
It is thought that Wenger tried to sign Jagielka in the previous transfer window in January.
Everton boss David Moyes is determined not to lose his England international, who he sees as a future club captain.
