Arsenal boss Wenger delighted for match-winner Welbeck

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was thrilled for Danny Welbeck following his match-winning goal on Sunday.

The striker glanced home Mesut Ozil's free-kick in the 95th minute to give the Gunners a last-gasp 2-1 win over league leaders Leicester City in his first appearance in 10 months.

Of the 25-year-old who has been sidelined by a knee injury, Wenger said: "For him it was a fantastic day.

"At his age, to be out for ten months [is difficult].

"I had a hesitation until the last second to put him in the squad. In the end I trusted the impression I got from his training sessions, so we thought, 'OK, we'll put him in'."

Wenger added: "You know Danny Welbeck, he is a great guy, with a great mentality. He worked extremely hard. That is why he is fit.

"But everybody is extremely happy for him, because he has been out for 10 months, that is an eternity for a player. We work very hard, our medical team, our fitness team, to bring him back so strong. Let's not forget he has not played one minute for us."

Welbeck came off the bench in the 83rd minute, replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and produced a vital moment for his side who are now just two points off the lead.
