Arsenal boss Arteta ready for 'spectacular' derby clash at Tottenham

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is counting on a "spectacular" North London derby at Tottenham tonight.

Arteta knows a draw would be enough to keep his side in pole position for fourth place in their shoot-out with bitter rivals Tottenham. But he is ready to go for the jugular as a win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would secure Champions League football for Arsenal next season.

Gunners boss Arteta said: “We always play to win and that's the way we will prepare this game. I'm sure they will try to do the same. That's why hopefully it's a really spectacular game. The message is clear, if we win against them we are in the Champions League next season. You don't need any motivation or to tell them anything more than that.

"The opportunity is there, we are going to play and go for it like we always do It's how we have got into this position, and it's how we are going to approach it. For me, it's more about excitement and the opportunity and when you have that in football you have to go and deliver and do it. That's the mindset we all have."

Arsenal have not qualified for the Champions League since 2016 and Arteta says it would be a game changer for the club both in terms of prestige and on a financial level.

Arteta added: “It's what we haven't been able to achieve in the past few years and it's had big consequences for the club in the atmosphere and environment around it, financially.

“We want to put that right and the best way to do it and help the club is to deliver on the pitch because the rest naturally comes out and plays out and that's what we want."
