Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had major concerns over signing Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez.
The former Ajax star was linked to both the Gunners and United in the transfer window.
United went on to outbid the Gunners, with Martinez reportedly wanting to work with his ex-Ajax coach Erik ten Hag at the Old Trafford stadium club.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal wanted Martinez as a left-back and backup central midfielder, the roles that Oleksandr Zinchenko will now fulfill in their squad.
Meanwhile, United signed him to play center back, despite his height being only 5ft 9in.
Arteta reportedly felt that Martinez could not succeed as a central defender in the Premier League, but admired his quality on the ball and aggression.
