Arsenal boss Arteta open to Xhaka leadership role

Mikel Arteta has opened the door for Granit Xhaka to reclaim a leadership role at Arsenal.

Xhaka was stripped of the club captaincy two months ago after he told fans to f**k off after being substituted against Crystal Palace.

But the Swiss midfielder has regained his place under Arteta, who has said he won't be sold this month despite links with Hertha Berlin.

When asked whether he could envisage Xhaka captaining Arsenal again, Arteta told football.london: "I don't know, time will tell that.

"Now he's happy to stay here, he's completely committed and that's a big plus today."
