Palace manager Vieira faces his former club on Monday.
Arteta said, "He is an Arsenal legend and I hope he gets the reception that he deserves. As a player, he was the captain of the club in its most successful years.
"He's had managerial experience before but you can see the touch that he's trying to put on Crystal Palace.
"I don't know how they'll set up so we will just have to see how the game develops."
The manager also stated: "Everybody seems to be okay after the break, Granit Xhaka is progressing well too but his is a long-term injury.
"We managed to turn things around a little bit but there's still big margins for improvement and although we got some good points, we still need to progress up the table.
"We need to improve our efficiency in front of goal and when we've got that balance right we will then be able to win more games."
