Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is facing an early test of his management over Gabriel Martinelli.
His performances have led to international recognition, making his breakthrough in the Brazil Under-23s side that will target Olympic glory at Tokyo 2020 in the summer.
And he has now been called-up for the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament which will take place in Colombia between January 18 and February 9.
It leaves Arsenal facing a spell of fixtures without Martinelli - if Arteta decides to let him go.
The dates fall outside of the FIFA international window, meaning clubs have no obligations to release their players.
As a result, reports the Mirror, Arsenal could risk the wrath of Martinelli and the Brazilian FA if Arteta opts to keep him around for their Premier League clashes with Chelsea, Burnley, Sheffield United and Newcastle as well as the FA Cup fourth round.
