Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is making an aggressive move for Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan.
The German comes off contract at the end of next month and is weighing up his options.
A new deal from City has been tabled for one year plus a 12 month option and it's suggested Gundogan favours remaining at the Premier League champions.
However, the Athletic says Arsenal are in contact, where former City coach Arteta is keen on a reunion.
Arteta wants Gundogan to succeed Granit Xhaka, who is on the brink of leaving for Bayer Leverkusen, and hopes to convince him with face-to-face talks.
