Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has stated that taking an injured Bastian Schweinsteiger to the 2016 European Championships in France will be pointless.
Schweinsteiger suffered a serious knee injury during the international break earlier this month and the German captain is now facing a race against time to return to full fitness for the upcoming UEFA tournament.
There have been suggestions that even if Schweinsteiger does not recover, he will be part of the Die Mannschaft squad as a coaching staff but teammate Ozil does not see the logic behind this and believes that the 31-year-old will not be of any use as a mascot.
Ozil told SID: "Bastian Schweinsteiger is a footballer, not a mascot.
"We do not need him as third assistant coach; we need him with his experience and game intelligence on the pitch."
