Alexis Sanchez is in danger of missing the beginning of the new Premier League campaign.
The Arsenal star is struggling to overcome the nasty ankle injury he sustained while playing for Chile in the Copa America final against Argentina late last month.
Sanchez is still returning to fitness after a short break but is unlikely to be fit in time for the August 14 season opener against Liverpool.
While the ankle is improving, reports suggest the ligament has not fully mended which will leave Sanchez short of match fitness for the Emirates Stadium fixture.
Also in doubt for the first game is striker Olivier Giroud, who will take an extended holiday after playing for France at Euro2016, while playmaker Mesut Ozil and defender Laurent Koscielny will also miss having played at the Euros as well for Germany and France respectively.
