Arsenal academy chief Per Mertesacker has taken aim at the big transfer spending in the Premier League.
Speaking with Kicker, the German agrees English clubs "squander money" in the market.
He said: "Yes, 100 per cent. The large amount of money makes the market explode, because the clubs promise special transfer services.
"However, only very few can win titles."
On the Premier League's financial strength, Mertesacker added: "There is a lot of investment going on. There are specialists in each area. The professional opportunities here are great, so the young players at the clubs have extreme expectations; but not all can go up."
