Argentine fitness coach Fernando Signorini says Barcelona star Lionel Messi was close to Diego Maradona.

He has discussed the No.10's future and said that the most important thing is for Messi to be happy.

"I thought that the burofax he sent was fine as I saw that Messi didn't want to be oppressed," Signorini told Radio MARCA.

"My advice to him is for him to seek the happiness that he wants and not to try to be happy in the way that others want him to be."

Signorini went on to share some memories of the famous Argentina training camp where Diego Maradona helped Messi perfect his freekick taking ability.

"Diego told him not to move his foot so quickly when striking the ball," Signorini revealed.

"He hit in the first one he took. Messi turned around with a look of surprise on his face.

"The conversations between the pair were based more so on looks than words.

"When they were knocked out of the 2010 World Cup, Messi even went to Maradona's room to be together."
