Alphonse Areola thinks West Ham United proved they can compete against the best with Wednesday's win over Manchester United.

The Hammers claimed a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford to seal their place in the Carabao Cup fourth-round, where they will meet Manchester City.

"We are at a level to really compete against that kind of team," Areola told the Evening Standard.

"We have the quality and a good group, good atmosphere and in our minds we have the same objective — to win and go as far as possible in every competition. We are trying to give everything every day during the week to perform.

"I was happy to start and to help the team win but all the team did a great job and we kept our goal with a clean sheet.

"If you want to win something you have to beat every team. We are competitors and we want to win and against big teams."
