Ardiles clarifies claims of Newcastle offer to Pochettino

Former Newcastle United boss Ossie Ardiles denies quotes attributed to him that the club's incoming owners have made an offer to Mauricio Pochettino.

The 67-year-old spoke to Infobae in Spanish and a section of that interview was translated by the Daily Mirror on Saturday.

According to Ardiles, when Pochettino 'spoke directly' to Newcastle, there were 'many first-rate people involved who made him a good offer' and it was a 'firm possibility' that the former Spurs boss could end up at St James' Park.

Ardiles took to Twitter on Saturday evening to clarify his comments.

'Never talked to the Daily Mirror,' he tweeted. 'They are quoting me in an interview with an Argentina paper where I talked very generally about Mauricio prospects. I don't know what he is going to do and if I know I won't tell of course.'
