Manchester United legend Gary Pallister believes the club has made a brilliant decision to bring Jose Mourinho on board.

The Portuguese replaces Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer and former defender Pallister feels the arrival of the successful Portuguese can only be a major positive for his beloved club.

"It's a terrific appointment. He's a proven manager - and he win things," he told The Sun.

"There's always a story with Jose. He's a larger than life character and United need someone like that to come in and take over right now. There's not going to be a dull moment while he is at the helm.

"Jose is going to bring positivity to the club. He's a character, he gets people talking around him. Everybody is now saying it is the perfect match so there's an expectation there which is great. It's almost like people are expecting top four to be a gimmie and then where do you go from there.

"We're looking forward to getting back in that top four and back in Champions League football and going from strength to strength.

"He's got an unbelievable track record of winning league titles so you wouldn't put it past him."
