Angry Weir responds to Scotland players "too thick" jibe

David Weir has hit back at Craig Burley's claim that some Scotland players were "too thick" to understand his uncle George's methods. George Burley was sacked as Scotland manager on Monday night in the wake of a 3-0 defeat by Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

Weir told the Daily Record: "I find that a ridiculous comment to make and 100 per cent untrue.

"Someone with Craig's experience at the top level should know better than to say something like that.

"Professional players aren't in the game because they lack the intellect to do anything else. We're fortunate to be in the game and we appreciate that, but to say we're thick is an insult.

"We wouldn't be international players if we were too thick to understand what the game's about."
