Former Newcastle United and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is a shock target for Wolves.
Wolves will turn to Carroll if their work permit appeal to sign Diego Costa is rejected.
Bruno Lage has been left scrambling for an emergency attacking recruit at Molineux after £15.4million summer signing Sasa Kaladjzic suffered a cruciate ligament injury during his debut against Southampton on Saturday.
The Telegraph says Carroll has been without a club since leaving West Brom upon the expiry of his contract in July, leaving him free to move elsewhere without a transfer fee required.
Should they pursue a deal, he would also be classed as a 'homegrown' signing for the Midlands club.
Carroll has most recently been on West Brom and Reading's books, dropping down to the Championship after leaving Newcastle for a second time last year.
