Andros Townsend says Newcastle could be 'biggest club in Premier League' with takeover (all)

Newcastle United have the potential to become one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

That is the opinion of winger Andros Townsend, who was discussing a possible takeover at the Magpies.

The former Newcastle player, who is now at Crystal Palace, believes the club's rich history and huge fanbase make them a potential giant.

The Premier League and Newcastle are in arbitration at the moment regarding a Saudi-backed consortium taking over the club.

Speaking to the ITV Football Show podcast, Mark Pougatch asked Townsend: "If I came up with the money that Manchester United, Liverpool or Manchester City own and I put in a structure that was as good as theirs, how big could Newcastle be?"

And the Crystal Palace winger responded: "The biggest club in the Premier League, they could be.

"If not, even more than that because they've got the stadium, the pitch is massive – it's incredible. They've got the fanbase, the stadium is in the city centre.

"It's all set up for them to be a massive club but unfortunately, at the minute, they're not quite getting it right on the pitch.

"It's even more sad because of how well the club is set up.

"For me, if they can stay in the Premier League this year, I'm sure things will start to turn around for them in the future.

"But first and foremost, they need to try and stay in the Premier League this ye
