Anderlecht coach Kompany wanted to sign Man Utd winger Chong

Anderlecht made a serious move for Manchester United winger Tahith Chong earlier this season.

However, the Belgians were forced to pull out of the deal due to their financial problems.

That's according to former Belgium striker Marc Degryse, who revealed to HLN: "I know that since November he (Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany) negotiated with Werder Bremen (who then had the winger on-loan from United) to bring Chong to Anderlecht, but had to drop out because Anderlecht couldn't even pay the player's salary."

Chong would leave Werder in January to sign for Anderlecht's Belgian rivals Club Brugge on-loan to the end of the season.
