Carlo Ancelotti reportedly rejected a move to Manchester United ahead of the upcoming summer.
A report in the Daily Mail suggests that the Red Devils made enquiries regarding Ancelotti making a possible move to Old Trafford to replace Louis van Gaal at the end of the current campaign.
It is believed that United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward sounded out Ancelotti in mid-November before he had committed to taking the reins at Bayern Munich, prior to Pep Guardiola's announcement that he would be leaving the German giants.
However, former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss Ancelotti informed the Manchester club that they were too late as he was in advanced talks with Bayern by that stage.
56-year-old Italian coach Ancelotti, who has also managed Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Juventus, will step into Manchester City-bound Guardiola's vacancy when the 2015/16 season is concluded.
