Chris Hughton, the Newcastle caretaker boss, has revealed striker Shola Ameobi could be back in action late next month. Ameobi scored five goals in as many matches for Newcastle before sustaining a foot injury at the end of August. The 28-year-old has so far missed a total of 10 matches.

Hughton said: "With Shola, we are probably looking towards the end of November, so we are looking at about another five weeks.

"But that deadline will be very much about how he responds. Everybody responds in different ways.

"But the time he has been given is five weeks and we're hoping that's enough."
