Alnwick backed for big Spurs future

Tottenham goalkeeper coach Hans Segers says England U21 international Ben Alnwick has a big future at White Hart Lane.

Segers told the Spurs website: "I saw Ben a few times before he joined us. He got into the first team very early at Sunderland, he actually played against us at White Hart Lane and did well. As a 19-year-old he was a mature goalkeeper as you watched him play and that's a credit, if people are watching you and think you've been around for a lot longer.

"He's a big talent and can go a long way. It was a huge jump from Sunderland to Spurs. He was in the comfort zone, his mates were there, his family, so to come a few hundred miles south to London, a massive club where he's the number three, it's a big decision to make.

"His decision was that he wanted to become a better goalkeeper and to push Paul Robinson in a couple of years time. The way he trained and played he could well do that."
