Miguel Almiron has admitted that he knew about Newcastle United's interest for a couple months.
The former Atlanta United player has been on the radar of top teams throughout the past year, given his excellent performances in MLS.
But he had to wait, as Newcastle were struggling to agree a fee with his club for his services.
But an agreement was finally reached, allowing Almiron to complete his move in the January transfer window.
Almiron said in an interview with Sky Sports: "It was towards the end of November, that's when I first found out about it. I was told about the interest from Newcastle.
"It was exciting but you try to take it lightly and put it out of your mind to stop yourself from getting anxious and driving yourself crazy about what might happen. If it comes off, fantastic; if it doesn't, just be patient.
"They've been quite tough, the last few days. It's been very busy, getting a lot of things done visa-wise, and all I wanted to get started doing was training. Now I've managed to do that and everything's settling down a little bit."
