Sam Allardyce has urged the Premier League's new boys not to go mad in the transfer market.
Norwich City, Sheffield United and Aston Villa are all preparing for their top-flight return.
Former Everton boss Allardyce told the Mirror: “When you see how that backfired it could be about the balance of what you do and what you spend the money on.
"My advice would be don't spread it out buying too many players. Buy quality not quantity. The £100m Fulham spent should get you three or four players, not 12."
Allardyce believes Villa's finances gives them the best chance of survival.
He added: “They have got ambitious owners prepared to back Dean and pump money into recruiting the players to keep them up."
