Allardyce the 'perfect appointment' says Sunderland defender Jones

Sunderland defender Billy Jones has labeled the appointment of Sam Allardyce at Stadium of Light as 'perfect'.

Allardyce took over the reins from Dick Advocaat and guided the club to their first victory of the season when they defeated Newcastle 3-0 on Sunday.

Jones revealed that he was called by the boss for a one-on-one after the derby win.

"It is quite nice to be having a one-on-one with the gaffer after a derby win," said Jones.

"I think at this stage he probably was the perfect appointment and that was the general opinion from outside looking in.

"The work we have put in on the training ground, and the analysis we do and the stats we look at are a total flipside to what the previous manager was doing.

"We have watched a number of videos on other teams and on ourselves to see where we can improve and we have looked at the stats as well.

"The old gaffer was not in to the stats as much as the new one.

"That was obvious when he came in. The new manager got our stats out for the first eight games, showed them all to us – and the stats don't lie."
