Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes played out a 1-1 draw in Wednesday night MLS action.
Timbers star Kenny Cooper scored his sixth goal of the season in the ninth minute when he neatly finished Darlington Nagbe's smart cross from the byline.
Three minutes later, Quakes keeper Jon Busch came up with a massive reaction save from Nagbe's pointblank attempt before Troy Perkins kept out Simon Dawkins down the other end.
Busch was on call again when he tipped over Cooper's 20-yard chip late in the first half and then just after the hour-mark, made another crucial save from Cooper's header.
Just prior to that save, however, San Jose got back on level terms when Khari Stephenson bobbled in his shot from the edge of the area under immense pressure.
Late in the game, Timbers' gloveman Perkins kept it 1-1 from Chris Wondolowski's 86th minute header allowing both sides to put a point in the bank, which sees Portland stay sixth in the West whilst the Quakes remain second bottom in the same conference.
