Alfie Mawson thrilled to make Swansea breakthrough

Alfie Mawson was delighted to make his Premier League debut in Swansea City's draw with Watford.

The 22-year-old defender arrived in a £5million switch from Barnsley during the summer and was thrown in at the deep end by Bob Bradley against Watford.

“I'd like to come in and have the same impact Ashley (Williams) had when he came in here. He was a League Two player but he helped the club rocket up the leagues and played at the Euros in the summer," said Mawson.

“It is not so much football-wise, but being a leader. That's what some could say is missing at this club because Ashley left a big hole in that respect. If I can take on that role I'm happy to do so. They are big shoes to fill, but I'm willing to give it a crack.

“This club is the right fit for me, the way Swansea play football, and I'm just embracing everything here."
