Alex Telles: Why Chelsea, PSG see Galatasaray's ace as the ideal fullback signing

Chelsea and Alex Telles. The name has come out of nowhere. But for Galatasaray fans, ever since he touched down in 2013, Telles has been synonymous with transfer talk.

With Filipe Luis now an Atletico Madrid player, to the tune of €16 million, Jose Mourinho wants cover at Chelsea for his first-choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta - and Telles is high on the agenda.

Fernando Otto, Telles' agent, is due in Istanbul today and will spend the weekend with Gala directors discussing the Brazilian fullback's situation.

"There's been conversations with clubs," Otto revealed earlier this week. "But no formal offers. It's normal for a player like Alex to attract such approaches.

"If he was to go to Chelsea or PSG, he wouldn't have to join them as a foreign player. He has an Italian passport.

"(But) At Galatasaray he is happy."

Also with Gala, where he is a guaranteed first-choice, Telles has a Champions League campaign to look forward to.

"It's the tournament that every professional soccer player dreams of playing in," says the 23 year-old.

"Since I've been with Galatasaray, I've played in the competition twice. But I want more."

As Otto admitted, Chelsea and PSG have shown interest in prising Telles away from Gala this summer. But they're not alone.

Juventus, Roma, Atletico Madrid (before the Luis deal), have all been splashed across Turkey's big sports newspapers this year being linked with Telles. Then there's the interest from back home, where Flamengo, Palmeiras and Internacional have spoken with Otto about bringing the fullback back to the Brasileiro.

"It's difficult at this stage in his career," Otto says of a return home, "but in football, nothing is impossible."

For his part, Telles says he remains determined to pursue his career in Europe.

"It's flattering. It shows I'm doing my job well. I leave everything in the hands of my manager and God.

"But for now, I intend to stay here (in Europe)."

At Galatasaray, Telles has been able to quickly settle thanks to the club's expanded Brazilian family, including goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel.

"Taffarel was the main goalkeeper in the club's history and for me, is the main goalkeeper in the history of Brazilian football. Everyone loves him here. He's playful and an amazing person. I have a great honor to be with him every day, taking a sliver of the experience he has," says Telles.

Gala paid €7 million to Gremio for Telles after a season where he was named the Brasileiro's left-back of the year.

Telles admits his arrival in Turkey convinced him he'd made the right choice.

"They said there was over a thousand people at the airport. It was very difficult to get in the car. It was a show of immense affection. I lost my manager and we only found eachother in the hotel, half an hour later. That impressed me a lot because I did not expect it."

For Mourinho and Chelsea, that Italian passport of Telles is crucial. The fullback is still waiting for a first Brazil cap.

"I always dreamed of playing for the Selecao. I never thought I'd get to where I am today so fast. So I do not know what will happen in one or two years. I think I have a chance (of playing for Brazil) and it is only up to me."

Telles, who admits "I'm learning English. It is improving", concedes playing for a more visible club could help his international ambitions.

"I've always thought of staying longer in Europe, playing with the big clubs in the Champions League. Even thinking about the Selecao, I'd have more chances."

If Gala were to lose Telles, it'd be no bitter split. The Brazilian enjoys a great relationship with fans and is a popular member of coach Hamza Hamzaoglu's squad.

Even, Hamzaoglu, himself, would be happy if Telles was to earn himself a move to Chelsea or PSG.

"Telles is a good player ... If he goes there, I want him to go and do well.

"I know he would. He's always fought for my team."
