Aldridge: Liverpool not missing Lovren thanks to Gomez

Liverpool legend John Aldridge is confident Dejan Lovren's extended injury can be covered.

World Cup finalist Lovren has hardly been missed as he continues his comeback from a stomach complaint.

Aldridge feels Lovren's issue could ultimately be considered a blessing in disguise.

“It was a blow to hear today that Liverpool could be without Dejan Lovren for another month," Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“But if that is the only new injury news to come from the international break considering the amount of players away with their nations, I'm sure Jurgen Klopp will be satisfied.

“The Croatian was in the form of his career during the second half of last season and had a really good World Cup. But as one door closes another one opens.

“That happens in football and it gives Joe Gomez more time to solidify the position for himself. He's been excellent for us and Leicester City was probably one of his best games.

“The fact that we are talking about Joe keeping his place in the side ahead of Dejan shows how far he has come in such a short space of time."
