Al Sadd coach Xavi has explained turning down the Barcelona job last week.

After sacking Ernesto Valverde, Barca named Quique Setien new coach on Monday - but only after being turned down by Xavi.

He said, "Yes, I received an offer from Barcelona in the presence of (Eric) Abidal and sports director Oscar Grau, but I did not accept this offer.

"It is too early for me to train Barcelona. My choice to continue with Al Sadd and reject the offer from Barcelona, I first announced to my family, then to the players of Al Sadd because they have followed this and knew in the previous 3 days, I was not in the best mood."
