Fulham's deal for Marlon King was scuppered by club owner Mohamed Al Fayed's personal physio, it has been revealed.
Fulham had a £5million offer for King accepted by Watford and the player had also agreed terms.
But boss Roy Hodgson revealed that the medic advised the club not to sign the 27-year-old striker because of a previous knee injury.
King went on to join Wigan and has since denied failing a medical.
Hodgson said: "I wanted Marlon but the final medical examination was carried out by Mohamed Al Fayed's personal physician.
"And he could not offer a guarantee that the knee injury would not re-occur.
"No one said that Marlon was incapable of playing but doubts were raised on the future."
