Ajax must pay record money to sign Spurs midfielder Bergwijn

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is determined to keep hold of Steven Bergwijn.

The Daily Mail says Ajax are keen on signing Bergwijn this summer but Tottenham chief Levy does not want to see him leave.

However, the Spurs supremo has slapped an asking price on the winger and will sell if the right offer arrives.

Spurs will not let the forward go for anything less than the £27m they forked out a year ago when he became one of Jose Mourinho's first signings.

There is also the matter of a new manager, who is yet to arrive to succeed The Special One but the favourite is now Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs chief Levy wants the incoming coach to get a good look of the squad before deciding who stays and who goes amid a summer of change in north London.

With Bergwijn being priced at £27m, that would be an astronomical figure for a club such as Ajax - who broke their club-record signing this winter when they bought Sebastien Haller from West Ham for £20m.
