The wing-back says he was aware of Blues manager Frank Lampard's youth plans before choosing to return to Amsterdam.
He told ELF Voetbal: "The interest had been there for some time. Ajax feels familiar to me. I played there for seven years. I put both situations side by side.
"The new manager Frank Lampard had indicated to Chelsea that he wanted to give his own youth more chances. Something Ajax is also known for, I feel that both situations were the same, so if I can make a choice, it is not difficult: Ajax.
"It was more attractive and when they officially approached, I didn't have to think twice."
