Ajax chief Marc Overmars has made an attempt for Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.
De Telegraaf says Overmars has sounded out Vertonghen about a return to his old club - potentially this month.
The Belgium international is off contract in June and free to discuss Bosman terms with foreign teams.
Overmars, however, has told Vertonghen he'll have to accept a hefty pay-cut to make the move. The defender is on €80-90,000-a-week at Spurs.
For the moment the deal appears unlikely - unless Vertonghen is prepared to make a major financial sacrifice.
