Ajax chief Marc Overmars says Barcelona weren't sufficiently serious enough to sign Frenkie de Jong.

The Catalans wanted to buy the young Ajax midfielder over the summer.

But Overmars said, "Barca did not value De Jong, the offer did not correspond to Frenkie's qualities.

"They could come back for Frenkie in January but our players will not leave during this period."

De Jong made his Netherlands debut against Peru and started against France.
