Ajax chief Marc Overmars is back in the frame for the Arsenal technical director's post.

The Mirror says the Dutchman has been heavily linked with the role following the departure of Arsenal's head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

The Gunners had made former Roma director of football, Monchi, their number one target, but he has since agreed a move back to Sevilla.

Now Overmars is the primary choice to take over the role, should he be able to leave current club Ajax.

However a move for Overmars could hit a snag, with Ajax keen to keep hold of the 45-year-old.

The Amsterdam club have made previous attempts to block an approach from the Gunners, with 18 months still remaining on Overmars' contract.
