Former Penarol attacker Agustin Alvarez has explained choosing Sassuolo over Southampton.

Alvarez is now in Italy ahead of signing for the Serie A outfit. The 21 year-old joins Sassuolo for €12m.

"It's a nice team for me, ideal for growing and improving. I chose Sassuolo because I like the club and I think it's the right place for me," the young striker told Sky Italia.

“I want to prepare and give everything to this team."

Alvarez scored 34 goals in 89 appearances with Penarol and made his senior Uruguay debut in September 2021.
