Agent: St Etienne crucial in career of Arsenal captain Aubameyang

The agent of Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has spoken of getting the striker a move to St Etienne.

Oscar Damiani Jr says Aubameyang's time with ASSE was critical in his career development.

He told TMW: "In January 2011, he played in Monaco, where he was on loan from AC Milan.

"But we had to find a new club. My father negotiated with Saint-Etienne, I had contacts with the player and the other parties concerned. He left Milan to go sign while his father Pierre was taking the car to Saint-Etienne, but ASSE called me to tell me that they hadn't been able to sell another player so I did a half turn and I asked Pierre-Emerick to do the same.

"But the Stéphanois called me back, they told me that finally they could get him to sign in the transfer window, there are opportunities not to be missed. We had to hurry because the transfer window ended at midnight.

"I believe that this stage in Saint-Etienne was very important sportingly and humanely for the progress of Auba. At the time, I was also in discussion with Roma for the summer transfer window but we could not find an agreement.

"After his stint with Les Verts, he went to Dortmund, he became an extraordinary footballer. But I believe that his passage to Sainté was for him a fundamental experience to reach the football of a very high level."
