Agent backs Diouf claim Marseille rejected teenage Modric: Told to go home

El-Hadji Diouf's claims of Olympique Marseille rejecting Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric as a teenager have been backed up.

Former OM striker Diouf made the comment on the night Modric was being named this year's Ballon d'Or winner.

"When Luka Modric was young, he came to Marseille to do tests ... he was told to go home," revealed Diouf.

And an unnamed agent told La Phoceen yesterday: "Even then, football was not Football Manager! We could not get a young Croatian and have him signed in Ligue 1 for a pittance. The president of Zagreb was involved in the transfer and it was necessary to put at least €10m on the table. Not to mention the surprises that can include in such a transaction..."
