Former Aston Villa captain Gabby Agbonlahor says manager Dean Smith remains the right man for the job.

Reports in the national press earlier this week, claimed that Smith could have faced the axe, with a heavy defeat to Chelsea. But everything is now in limbo due to the coronavirus suspension.

“For me, I've spoken to him a couple of times this season and I've met him a couple of times, he's a Villa fan, for me there's no one else out there I'd want to manage this team and keep them up," he told talkSPORT.

“He's someone that bleeds claret and blue, Villa have had a lot of bad results this season through VAR as well, don't forget. We haven't had our luck with that, so maybe we're due some luck with that.

“But John Terry and Dean Smith are the right people to save Aston Villa."
