Advocaat allows Vergini to leave Sunderland

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has told Santiago Vergini that he is no longer needed by the Black Cats.

Despite signing a new deal on July 1, after his appearances whilst on loan at the Stadium of Light last season triggered a clause in the terms of the loan deal, Advocaat has told the Argentine that his time at the club is over.

Advocaat said: "It's a new season and I have to be straight and honest with people.

"I don't want to go on with him, with all respect. I'm sorry for Santi, but he has to go and find another club."

Former Newell's Old Boys defender Vergini, 26, spent the last year-and-a-half on loan at Sunderland from Costa Rican side Sport Uruguay de Coronado is believed to be a target for his old club as well as Argentine giants Boca Juniors.
