Adelaide United young gun Mathew Leckie knows he needs to improve his finishing skills so he can make the most of his chances.
The teenager scored a last-gasp cracker to help the Reds grab a 1-1 draw against Gold Coast United on Friday night but admits he has been letting himself and the team down with his touches when close to goal and aims to improve that part of his game.
"I can't even score right in front but I seem to score the hard ones," Leckie said.
"I wanted to score lately but the amount of chances we've created, soon enough they're going to go in and we can only go up from here."
Leckie helped save the Reds season with the goal as a loss would have been disastrous but admitted the equaliser came with an element of luck.
"But what can I say (about the goal). The chance was there, my first touch wasn't the best but then I got it out in front of me, looked for the goal, took a shot, I was lucky it got through everyone."
