Adelaide United's Galekovic a possible World Cup selection

Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic is a possible selection for the Australian World Cup squad according to coach Pim Verbeek.

The Socceroos boss says that Galekovic is battling with four other players for two goalkeeping positions as it is almost certain that Fulham's Mark Schwarzer will be in the 23-man squad.

After watching Galekovic in action in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday night, Verbeek said he was a definite chance.

"We have Schwarzer, (Reading's) Adam Federici and (Middlesbrough's) Brad Jones," he said.

"Eugene is playing very well so he's an option and we still have (Elfsborg's) Ante Covic and (Sivasspor's) Michael Petkovic on the list, but he's not playing at the moment.

"Eugene is very good. At least we have five possibilities for three positions."
