Adams finally tastes success at Sheff Utd

Micky Adams ended his long wait for a win as Sheffield United boss with a 2-1 win over promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest at Bramall Lane. Adams has endured 13 games in charge without a win until this vital success which gives them hope of pulling clear of the relegation places.

Adams admitted he was relieved to finally gain three points.

He said: "We've got to use it as a springboard for the last 10 games and see what we can do.

"There was a massive mental barrier we needed to break down I think and hopefully that's done now, we've smashed it down tonight.

"People will stop talking about it now and we can all get on with our lives, because I was sick of reading about it and seeing it.

"It's behind us now, we've got to look forward and move on. Ten games to go, got to give it a real go, we're not dead men."

Forest have now failed to win in their last five Championship games leaving the Reds clinging on to the last play off place in sixth position.

Boss Billy Davies said: "For 60 minutes I didn't see us in any trouble.

"I thought first half we played better than the home side, I thought we had a couple of good chances, showed some good quality and scored our goal, we deserved to be in front.

"We needed to get the second goal, we didn't pass well enough in the second half, our positional game wasn't good enough, we played too direct and we didn't influence the game enough in the final third.

"For the last half-hour we looked mentally tired, that's the best word to describe it."

He added: "The target before this game was five or six points out of the next three matches, now we've got to take six points from the next two games."
